The Hearth

At the heart of this 1966 Tarrytown residence, the kitchen serves as the home’s true gathering space. Our design honors the historic character of the house — constructed from salvaged brick and limestone from Austin’s Old Majestic Hotel — while adapting it for modern family life.

The original cabinetry was preserved out of respect for the home’s history and the environment, refined with solid brass hardware in a timeless black finish. New Calacatta Laza quartz countertops introduce movement and light, balancing durability with a marble-like richness.

Lighting was reimagined to soften the aggressive can grid: uplights in the ceiling cove now bathe the space in a warm glow, complemented by dimmable undercabinet fixtures. Anchoring it all is a La Cornue range, chosen as a centerpiece for a family that loves to cook together.

This kitchen embodies LSD Studio’s ethos of livable modernism rooted in craft, light, and warmth — a space where history and contemporary life coexist, and where everyday moments gather around a shared hearth.
